German firm Puma unveils the lightest jersey with Ultraweave technology
Ultraweave, which was created after years of rigorous wear testing with Puma athletes, is an ultra-light fabric designed for optimized performance. The jersey has a base frame weighing just 72 grams, with extreme weight reduction achieved through a lightweight woven fabric with a 4-way mechanical stretch that will make Puma players and teams faster and more dynamic, said the company in a press release.
Ultraweave is a combination of fabric, pattern construction and applications (trims) that give the garment its unique properties. The lightweight woven fabric features a two-dimensional ripstop structure that remains durable while improving player movement and dramatically reducing weight. Further weight reduction is achieved through a specially designed pattern that reduces the conventional four panel design to eight panels into just two main panels, reducing the number of seams and stitches in the jersey.
Global sports company Puma has developed Ultraweave, its lightest performance clothing technology ever to deliver the fastest soccer jersey in the game. The new technology debuted on October 6, worn by the national team men of Italy in the semi-final of the League of Nations against Spain. It will also be worn by the Italian women’s national team.
In addition, the Ultraweave jerseys feature a new printing technique for team / federation and Puma logos, which is lighter and more breathable than traditional transfers. Ultraweave retains measures of performance, durability and breathability with thermoregulatory properties to ensure optimum performance in extreme conditions. The dryCELL recycled polyester jersey dries quickly and reduces water retention, allowing for peak performance when wet or dry.
Stefano Favaro, Creative Director Teamsport at Puma said: “Sport is defined by fractions of a second. Therefore, we identified the clothes as a product that we could evolve to a new level. We thought we could give our players and teams a tangible performance advantage for 90 minutes. During a game, players average 10 to 13.5 km with high intensity action every 60 seconds. To perform at your optimal level during a game, clothing must adapt and evolve. Thanks to Ultraweave, we are able to reduce the weight and restrictions of clothing and kits to improve performance.
