Wylie’s football ends season with win at Plainview, still misses playoffs

By on November 6, 2021 0

PLAINVIEW – The Wylie football team ended a 2021 roller coaster season with a 35-0 win at Plainview on Friday night.

The win was what Wylie (4-6 overall, 2-3 district) needed to do on his part, but didn’t get the help he needed as Wichita Falls Rider beat Wichita Falls High 59-12 to take Wylie out of the playoffs.

“We could only control one game and it really felt like we did what we planned and executed and got a big win over Plainview,” said Wylie coach Clay. Martin. “Obviously disappointed that the season is ending, but I think we played well. Proud of the way we came out and controlled what we could control.”

Trey Gomez led the offense with three rushing touchdowns while Aden Kincaid rushed in for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to Grayson Bearden in the win.

“Trey, for two years now, has been a big part of what we’ve been trying to do,” Martin said. “He ran the ball extremely strong and no different tonight. He had a great game and had some pretty special races and was able to end a high school career in a great way.

Wylie finished the season 4-6 and finished third in District 3-5A Division II. But Old High and Canyon Randall will reach the playoffs after the tiebreaker. This sends Wylie into her offseason to prepare for what will likely be a different neighborhood next year.

“We’re going to get back to work pretty quickly,” Martin said. “It’s been a long year that hasn’t ended the way we wanted it to but I think we can build on this one. We’ll be going back to work in the weight room and talking to all the guys about the importance. of that time is. Realistically, next week will be the start of next year’s football season. “
